Our First Day!!

An update from a few team members…..

Hola! I bet you guys wish you were here! The weather is lovely and we do fun things like fish for giant centipedes, paint rooms purple and eat Canadian cookies. Then again you get swody (sweaty body) in the sun, the centipedes are deadly, the paint gets in your hair and … there is nothing wrong with Canadian cookies. Hope all is well in Winterpeg and we’ll see you in 9 sleeps.

Anja

Buenas noches!  Thank you so very much for your encouraging words and travelling along with us online.  Jon shares your notes with us and every one is hanging off their chair listening as he does.  Well great news – it is still very evident how much these kids are loved.  You can just feel it as you watch them interact with each other.  God is great!   Watch for Jon’s update on the policia episode just after we crossed the border… take care and Rob stop killing the deer!!!!

Hola Amigos!

We’ve had a great first day at the orphanage….it was so good to finally arrive here last night.  We were able to sleep in until about 8am and catch up a little from a long day of travel.  We headed off to the orphanage at around 9:30 this morning and it was so good to see it again.  We took some time to figure out what jobs we were going to be doing and what materials we would need….and then we got a few jobs going today.  We painted a bedroom and got it ready for tiling tomorrow….we tiled a few unfinished parts in one of the bathrooms….poured some concrete….and got some things going on putting the doors in on the second floor.  Three of us headed into Home Depot to pick up supplies during the afternoon while the group stayed back to continue working and to meet the kids when they came back from the orphanage.  It’s great to be back here eating beans for every meal…every day!  The smell of Mexico air and the sight of the beautiful mountains makes us feel at home.

We met to sing and pray as a team tonight and had a chance to read the comments from the blog….what an encouraging thing to do!  It was great to hear from you all.  Thanks!

Also….you may hear some stories about a certain incident with the policia that happened after we crossed the border yesterday…but rest assured all of us are fine…just a bit of a scare for a moment.  Basically, we were driving down the highway about 10 minutes after getting across the border when suddenly a police truck flies in front of us and pulls us all over (an entourage of 3 white vans).  Immediately all four doors of the police car fly open and 3 cops armed with machine guns jump out.  We had no idea what was happening….they carefully approached our vehicle and only when they saw who was in it did they settle down…they quickly realized we were a group of tourists and said… “calm down everyone…we were just checking for drugs.  They checked a couple of ID’s…and then joked around a little with us about how scared we must have been….then let us on our way.  It was a great welcome to Mexico for all!  LOL.  But they really were friendly police…just thought that a 3 three brand new white van entourage looked suspicious.

Anyway….that’s our story.  Good night from Mexico!

Juanito

Painting rooms purple, eating Canadian cookies, four star hotels, and riding in limos...sure sounds like you guys have it tough out there! ;) But then again, getting chased down by the local policia isn't exactly a walk in the park! Great to hear you're all doing well and safe.

As people have said, it has definitely turned into Winterpeg around here! Snow, ice, wind, and all the standard Winterpeg weather! Hope you all come back nice and tanned! ;)

Keep us updated, it's wonderful to hear about your adventures! Be safe, and we'll be praying for you.

So glad you and your team made it without any problems Maxine. I am checking the blog every day to get the news from Mexico. Hope you get all accomplished that you set out. I am saying a little prayer for you every day. It's cold here but no centipedes, good thing. Look forward to hearing all about it when you come back.

bueno!

very happy that you guys are able to have this experience once again. i know that it changed my life both times i went! one obviously a bit more than the other, hence the no relationships rule. juanito, maybe you should just warn that the last 2 to break the rule got married. might deter?

nevermind.

Dad i am most happy that you are able to go on this trip. you didn't think it was going to be possible but everything came together! i pray that you're able to really speak your wisdom to the rest of the team and to exercise the servants heart that i know you have. your family loves you, and abby loves you too. very much. :'(

kirk and maxine! the dream team if you will? i'm glad you finally got to do this thing together! God bless you both and melissa and i will continue to remember you in our prayers.

to everyone else! dios le bendiga!! i think i would have met most of you, but for the first timers, soak this in and take lots of pictures. it truly is the experience of a lifetime.

peace.

brendan.

Hola mi amigos!
Espero todo estaba muy bien!!

sorry I was feeling a little left out of this trip! Just wanted to let everyone know that Adrienne and I are praying for you and are confident in the work you are doing there.

Please give my best to Moses and his family! Hug each and every one of the children again and again!

My advice, look the children in the eyes and see what they have to teach you. You may just find that where you have gone to be the blessing, you shall return as the blessed!

Little word to the wise! ANYTHING that happens on Sirva will undoubtedly end up on the Sirva video... albeit in a special feature but it is amazing what Juanito can do with a little mood music and slow motion!

Dios te bendiga muchisimo!!

Hey Sirva Team,

Keep the updates coming. It's so exciting to hear about your adventures. Know that you are all loved and that we are praying for you. Hey Anja we missed you at the cafe on Sunday - but we're glad to hear you're enjoying the trip and interacting with the kids again.

Take care - enjoy the warm weather even when you're sweating buckets because you'll be hit with a wave of crisp cool air when you exit the airport in Winnipeg.
