DAY 2....

Hi everyone! Becky here. Just wanted to let you in on a few of the happenings around Casa Hogar today… Well, this morning we worked our buns off digging and scraping and pick-axing away at some very stubborn land… but we got it started and got a pretty big portion of it all concreted up and ready to go to work on again tomorrow. Everyone helped out SO MUCH and were hardcore dedicated to getting that first slab done. Then onto some other jobbies around the orphanage, including finishing off some painting in one of the rooms, tiling the upstairs bathroom (Taylor, our youngest Sirva member, ROCKED one of the showers!), getting’ some door frames in, and I gotta mention: me and Jenna were up on the scaffolds painting the exterior of the second floor (Not gonna lie, it was freaky!!) along with the help of Alana, Maxine, and Sharlene. I missed watching everybody doing the concrete but that thing felt like it was done in no time so I know everyone was pitching in to their max. I just wanna mention my favorite part of the trip so far: Everyone here is so awesome and so welcoming that as a first timer on Sirva, my nerves have been completely settled. Oh wait, okay okay, one more thing: THE KIDS!!! Are sooooo adorable. The first day I met them they were crawling all over me and insisting that I take pictures of them on my “photo” (…the only English word I caught on to…) They are very sweet and just remind me that love is a language that is universal, even if there are language barriers. A smile, and a hug from them totally made my day. Can’t wait to hang out with them more. Well, that’s all from me! (and I’ll be the first to admit, I’m EXCITED for the snow that’s waiting for me when I get home!) Take care guys, and we’ll see you soon. J

Hi Mär ... and anyone that cares to listen in. Productive day here today. “Harriet” roared back to life as we poured our first significant chunk of concrete. There’ll be a lot more before this trip is over. It’s been really neat to see some of the “kids” from the early trips “come of age” as workers. The weather has been incredible. Spencer suggested that not throwing toilet paper in the toilet would be a fair trade-off to enjoy this kind of weather year round. I miss sharing the adventure with my beauty. Take care. I love you and miss you.

Art

Hi all!  We’ve had a great day and it has been summarized well above.  We worked hard and are going to earn our sleep tonight.  As one of our team members said to me on her way to bed, “my arm hurts from brushing my teeth.”  So….I say way to go team for working so hard.  We poured a bunch of concrete, continued tiling, started painting the outside, finished painting the “purple room”.  Kirk installed a new main breaker panel and Mike worked hard installing doors in the second floor….lots on the go!

This evening we went into town and the main tienda was closed so we walked a ways to find a little tienda somewhere and bought him out of Coke’s and Joyas!  We had a great time as a team sitting on the curb and drinking our cokes.

I’ve just discovered somewhere that I can have wireless internet access so I am going to add some pictures to the blog.  I’ll just put a few from the past few days for you to see and I’ll try to keep more coming.  THANKS SO MUCH to all who have commented.  It has been a highlight for us to be able to read them each night at our meeting and everyone is encouraged to know people are cheering them on and the personal messages mean a lot.

Tomorrow we will put in a solid work day, and then spend some time with the kids after.  We will have supper at the restaurant on the end of the road to the orphanage called Le Estacion.  I like to play a little game with everyone where they have to order off the menu but nobody will translate for them so most people won’t know what they have ordered until they get it….we’ll see how much help we give J

Until tomorrow….

Hi Art...(and to everyone else who is listening in) wonderful to hear things are going well and that 'Harriet' is also performing well. One of the benefits of returning to the same place is seeing the progress, but also seeing the kids growing up. Man, this is so hard for me to post. I never do this sort of stuff. That's your department. Just goes to show how much I love you and the mountains I will climb for you.

Praying for you all, numerous times thru out the day. Just remember that smiles and hugs cross any language barriers! Miss ya lots Art!

Maxine...
How is it possible that even with a shovel and dirt under your feet you still look like a movie star?

Your refuge friend...

You guys are all doing such an awesome job...well, Andrew looks like maybe he'd rather think in his underwear...like father like son, eh?...but generally...wow! Thank you all for being an extension of us here back at home. As your muscles and bones ache and you wonder what you're doing out of your comfort zones, just think of the practical help and blessing you all are to our friends at Casa Hogar! Thank you for being so willing!

p.s. please take care of that leader of yours. I want him back in one piece! (actually, I have my own "To Do" list for him when he gets back home! Haha!

God bless,
Kelly and Conner
