We can't believe it is already Thursday. Time flies when you are
working hard and having fun. What an incredible team we've got. They
have such great spirits, such big hearts and are a ton of fun.
We woke up this morning to the sound of thunder booming outside our
rooms....and went out to have a look. The rain was coming down and we
watching lighting strike into the mountain right across from us. It
really was quite the show. While being entertained by the storm, we
wondered what kind of work we would be able to do in that
weather....but as usual the rain left about as fast as it came. After
breakfast the skies started clearing up....and we loaded into our vans
to head out to Casa Hogar. It was a slightly cooler day reaching
somewhere around 27 C or so....I bet in Winnipeg that sounds very far
away. We worked really hard today...pouring the rest of the concrete
pad and the beginning of the stairs. We had a team of people that
were painting the outside, a couple of people working away at painting
the little that is left on the inside....mostly touch-ups and then all
the doors! Mike continued to work away at installing the doors on the
second floor and Chris and Anja weren't far behind painting them. The
tile crew did awesome today! They are getting close to being
done....but have a bunch more grout to install in the next couple of
days.
Hans made a deal with Shelly and Erin that they could paint a
permanent smile on his face as you can see in the pictures. Hans is
doing an amazing job pouring concrete...a beautiful job! Art got a
chance to use a jackhammer before the day was over....he was very
excited. It seemed fitting that after waking up to a storm we would
end the day with another amazing display of God's creation....just as
we were driving down the road and came around a mountian, we saw the
sun just hovering above the mountains on its way down....so we stopped
the van and got out and watched the sunset into the mountains.
Tonight was great....we had supper and then had a presentation by one
of the ladies who is in charge of the ministry that runs the
orphanage. It was SO inspiring to hear the background story to the
ministry and to Casa Hogar. Incredible. Truly a testimony to God's
faithfulness and provisions! After the presentation we headed up to
the rooftop were we sang and shared under an almost full moon and
mountains. A great time together....we also read out the blog
comments from yesterday. It was great again to hear from home.
Then we had a couple of hours to have a coffee, write some
encouragement cards and enjoy a slideshow of the pictures so far. It
was a great night for the team. We are heading to bed to get rested
for a couple of days of really solid work as we do our best to finish
off a bunch of jobs and get the second floor ready!! Please pray for
us over the next couple of days that we will find a lot of productivity!
Many of us miss home in the best of ways....well, we miss those that
are at home mostly...not the cold. I hogged my computer all night to
get through pictures so that is why it is just me blogging tonight.
Debbie, Phil is a master tiler....in fact we have been joking that
every picture we have of him is in a stall in the bathroom as he
tiles. So, get the ideas on paper and you'll have your personal tiler
home in a few days. Rick, Gringo Cowboy is behaving and doing
fantastic with el concreto! And you'd be SO proud of your
daughter...she and Shelly are continuing on the Friesen work ethic
incredibly! Taylor completed tiling her toilet stall today....she did
the whole thing herself.
Anway, I should get to bed and I look forward to seeing much come
together over the next couple of days. I've posted a few pictures
from the day for you to catch a glimpse of what we've been up to.
Dios les Bendiga mucho! Thanks for following the blog and it's great
to hear from you!

Just wanted to say hi to Sharlene and Chris. All of you guys are hard at work - concrete, pickaxes, painting... I'm impressed!! It's great to be able to get updates on how things are going, otherwise we'd be in the dark up here. Hope the rest of the time is fun and productive and that the ride home is uneventful. Enjoy that hot weather while you have it!
Christine
Awesome job guys - thanks for all the hard work! You are doing us proud - way to represent!!
Your blog posts, and wonderful pictures make me so wish I could be there with you. {{{HUGS}}} to share with the beautiful kids.
I was really wanting to say something that would encourage you today, but I find once again that the blog has blessed me far more than anything I can say or pass on.
I'm so proud to have you folks as our church family. Way to go! I'm so happy that you're there.
Special greetings to Spencer, from my kids. Taryn admires you so much, and likes the pictures that are posted. We'd like to see you playing with your friends from the orphanage please?

OK...let me get this straight...you've got Hans pouring concrete like crazy and Art "running around" with a jackhammer!?! The mental image you're creating is confusing :)
And, Brett, I can see from the picture of you tiling that you have taken my advice and are not working at lifting or moving objects bigger than you!!!. Good boy!
I am so happy to see you in the pictures Alana...glad you're back at Casa Hogar. And, if you have to play your "knees card", you'll get to spend a day or so with the kids all around you. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!
Make sure Phil comes out of the shower stall every once in a while...wouldn't want him to miss out on the jam-jams!!!
Thanks, Jon for the daily updates. It's easy to imagine the team up on a rooftop on a warm, moonlit evening, enjoying God's creation and the satisfaction of a day well live! Keep going strong everyone...you're doing great!!!
Just sitting here catching up on your last two days of progress and wishing so much that I could rather be there.Just wanted to say way to go Mike on hanging the doors once again. At least this year you should have more of the crew surrounding you while you are working. I kind of missed that last year getting a chance to work along side and getting to really know the rest of the gang as we held up mostly in the lower level.
Hans don't forget about that deal we made before you left! And make sure Jon is ready with the camera.

We are so proud of you all. Thanks for all the hard work and service on behalf of us all as a Riverwood Family. We are cheering you all on and looking forward to your safe return shortly. Jon gets more prayer than the rest of you - but as know - he needs more too!! Love you tons Jon. We let Connor take Brady the dog for a walk around the block on his own today. He hasn't returned yet, but I am hoping Brady knows his way home.
Thanks for the updates and the pictures...it helps us here back at home to feel connected to what you're doing out there. We're so proud of what you're doing and will pray for ongoing safety, strength and joy in the work you're doing. How awesome to be on a rooftop lifting your voices in praise and awe of God's creation and faithfulness.
Fantastic to see the smiling faces of the kids there...equally appealing are the lovely close-ups of the spiders :)
Keep up the great work and know that you are not alone in this project...you're out there sacrificing and pouring yourself into the project but you are supported and prayed for back home.
